Reasoning Behind the Whigs and the Website
We chose the Whigs for our website group name because despite opposition they remained steadfast in standing up for their beliefs. As a political opposition group in Britain their courage and bravery were inspirational to us. Although we may not agree with all of their ideas, their determination and steadfastness is what grabbed our attention. They were also an important political party during the time of the 13 colonies which ties into our U.S. History class. We chose this name because we thought it adequately represented the American spirit of rebelling against that which is unfair or unjust.
The Image is representative of monopolies, which began taking hold during this era. The idea behind a monopoly was that one person owns all the resources, the manufacturing plants, and sometimes even the transportation systems, what this meant is that one person made all the money, and the working class was at their beck and call, what this lead to, as the picture shows, is an economy where the worker is tied down by the monopoliser, because he is reliant upon them. This in the end, is very bad for the middle class ( and hence the economy) because as we know, the machine of capitalism runs on the blood of the workers!!
