Political Cartoon
This political cartoon entitled “Ograbme” ( which is embargo backwards) was an anti-Jeffersonian cartoon in response to the Embargo Act of 1807, which sought to penalize Great Britain and France for seizing cargo and impressing men into their navies as an act of incidental warfare. As part of the Embargo Act, American ships bound for foreign trade were banned from leaving the ports; this also created an unwanted side-affect which banned American exploration. Furthermore, in reality the Embargo Act HELPED Great Britain and France because it remove the Americans as opponents in the sale of goods to South America, thus making the act irrational.

The Articles of Confederation
http://www.loc.gov/rr/program/bib/ourdocs/articles.html
Summary: The Articles of Confederation was known as the first limited central government of the United States of America in 1777; it was also know to be a "failure". This constitution was a loose confederation of states that denied the national government any coercive power including the power to levy taxes and to regulate trade. The Articles did not grant enough federal power to manage the country's budget or maintain internal stability. The results of the Articles' failures were replaced by the Constitution in 1789.
Significance: The Articles of Confederation served as a stepping stone to the United States Constitution. The importance of the Articles' was the unification of the 13 colonies, that established nationalism.

The Louisiana Purchase
http://www.loc.gov/rr/program/bib/ourdocs/Louisiana.html
Summary: The Louisina Purchase sums up the agreement of the actual Louisiana Purchase between Napolean and Thomas Jefferson.Napolean was willing to sell the land in the hopes that America would grow to a strong military and naval force that would overtake Britian. It states all the terms and clearly turns over all the land in the trans-Mississippi region of the New Orleans, this also included the New Orleans area.
Significance: This document was important because of what it did. With the purchase of the Louisiana territory Jefferson managed to avoid causing problems with France and the entangling alliance with England. This purchase was significant because there was no blood-shed as well as ourchasing half of the richest river valley in the world and further laid the foundations of a major power in the future.

The Missouri Compromise
http://www.loc.gov/rr/program/bib/ourdocs/Missouri.html
The Missouri Compromise was decided upon when Missouri wanted to join the union as a slave state. The Northern free states did not approve of this, and the South did not approve of Missouri entering as a free state. The problem was fixed (for the time being) by letting Missouri come in as a slave state and Maine as a free state, and then drawing a horizontal line across what would become the modern day United States mainland. Anything below that line would be a slave state, and anything above would be free.
